The Journey Begins
Yesterday we started our trip to Alaska from Frankfurt Airport. We went through check-in and all security procedures without any trouble or delays and then waited at the probably farthest away gate to finally board our plane and start the journey. When boarding time came our plane was again located pretty far away from the gate, so we had to take a bus to board it. You can imagine our surprise as we came closer and realized the plane we would be traveling in was covered in "Janosch"-Characters...
We boarded the plane and took off at 11.30 am. Tim had some trouble fitting his legs inbetween his seat and the next, while I sat quite comfortably. And then we just waited to get to our destination. Our seemingly endless flight took us over Norway, Greenland and the north of Alaska. Great parts of the flight we couldn't see anything beneath because it was really cloudy, but at some points we could catch a glimpse of the landscape we were passing.
The most memorable part of the trip was when we passed Mt. McKinley. Our plane left travelling height shortly before we got closer to Denali, so we would have a good view, and we were lucky enough to sit on the right side of the plane. And it really was worth it – the view was breathtaking.
After about 10 hours we landed in Anchorage – at 11.10 am. So basically we were time-travelling back into the past. That also gave us another long day ahead of us. We spent the day settling in with the family and visiting some places with a great view of the surrounding area. The weather was pretty rainy and therefore not perfect, but Alaska really is beautiful.
